Entertainment leads European surfers online
The height of summertime fun led Europeans to look for relaxation online. According to new research from comScore, surfers from the UK, France and Germany were led online to shop, research travel destinations and decide on a movie.
Let's begin in the UK. Residents there turned to the Internet for movies and other holiday websites. Odeon.co.uk was the highest gaining web property in the UK with 2.6 million unique visitors, a 49% increase in traffic. In addition to looking for things to do on vacation, surfers planned late vacations. Travel hubs like CheapFlights.com and First Choice Holidays saw increases of 22% and 19% respectively.
Moving a bit farther south, French surfers were looking for more entertainment and online gaming hub Miniville.fr saw a 231% increase in traffic. That is the second-highest gain of French websites. The highest gaining website was the educational Resultat-Examen.edu (486% increase). That high number is likely due to the release of baccalaureate results for students.
Finally in Germany, users were keen to find out more about back to school shopping. Online retailer DooYoo Group was the highest gaining web property. The site allows users to compare prices and read consumer reviews of products, it saw an increase in traffic of 145%. Price comparison site Solute GmbH saw an 18% increase in traffic.
