Moblogs offer opportunities to cell operators, advertisers
New research into the mobile Internet indicates some previously untapped revenue streams - specifically mobile social networking dollars. According to a report from In-Stat, mobile blogs (moblogs) offer a chance to monetize camera phones.
Both moblogs and photo-blogs are growing at a fast clip, and according to the report about 60% of cell phones are now camera-ready. In 2006 only about 40% of phones had camera functionality; by the end of 2007, the company is predicting that more than 1 billion camera phones will be in service.
Jill Meyers, In-Stat analyst said, "Mobile device networks can benefit through traditional methods of data plans, as well as per-message and per-photo charges."
At the same time, they offer users the ability to stay connected, share information with other users and log on for traditional mobile offerings like local search.
The mobile marketplace isn't showing any signs of slowing down, and in fact marketers are finding that mobile users are actually quite social. itsmy.com is one of the largest mobile social networks and recently logged its 500,000th user. With so many mobile users logging on to chat it is a good idea to get that mobile marketing plan up and running - and to include social features to keep users engaged.
