Google Dance hits Google-reliant websites
The most recent Google Dance has already affected many websites, with some online businesses seeing a radical change in their search engine positions. For websites that rely heavily on search engine traffic, this has had a significant effect.
In a recent press release the CEO of Answers.com, Bob Rosenschein, made it known that a recent algorithm change by Google has resulted in the loss of over a quarter of their site traffic. For a website that, in June this year, attracted around 3 million visitors the announced 28 percent drop amounts to a lot of lost eyeballs.
Answers.com is just one of a huge number of websites that are overly dependent on Google traffic. In this case Answers.com was, according to Michael Eisenberg, “…overly dependent on the definitions link on Google search results for its traffic”.
Within the press release, Rosenschein was keen to assure that the company was working hard to “restore normal traffic levels”. Many online businesses use a variety of tools to try to predetermine when the next Google Dance is about to commence, and time their website updates accordingly.
Regular updates to their algorithms are carried out, says Google, to continually improve their user's experience.
