AdMob serves 1 billion mobile ads per month
It seems as if mobile advertising just cannot slow down. According to a recent report from MediaPost, mobile ad server AdMob is now serving 1 billion mobile ads each month.
According to AdMob, the company served it's 5 billionth ad last week. The company has a global network of 2,000 mobile sites.
"AdMob's growth is a testament to the growth of the mobile Internet and proof that advertising business models are viable in mobile," said CEO Omar Hamoui (via MediaPost).
The top mobile markets for AdMob are the United States, the United Kingdom and South Africa, but America is the largest. American users are responsible for about 45% of all mobile ads, about 520 million each month.
As mobile becomes more mainstream, advertisers are rushing to create fun and interactive mobile sites for users. They are also trying to find the best way to monetize those sites, and it seems mobile ads are the way to go. Several studies have indicated a tendency by users to allow and even respond to mobile ads as long as they get something in return. Free minutes are the most popular incentives marketers have used, but discounts to stores, movie theaters and restaurants are also popular. Free ring tones are also a favorite, especially with college-aged users.
