Mobile video shows 198% subscriber increase
In the past year, subscribers to mobile video platforms have nearly doubled. However, with only about 4% of the total mobile audience logging on for video are advertisers wasting money by creating mobile video ads?
The short answer is no.
That is because while only about 4% of mobile users are video watchers right now, more mobile customers are signing on for video every day. According to a recent Telephia report, mobile video revenue reached $146 million in Q1 2007; 2007 has also seen subscribers rise to more than 8 million. That is an increase of 198% since Q1 2006.
That kind of growth cannot be ignored, but are users ready for ads on their handsets, too?
According to research, about 40% of mobile subscribers recently responded to a mobile ad - text, video or display - and about 55% of users said, they recalled watching a mobile ad within the month prior to the study.
Kanishka Agarwal, vice president of mobile media at Telephia said, "Nearly half of mobile video users are willing to view ads on their phones in exchange for something, translating into a compelling opportunity for ad-supported mobile content where marketers can target customers with relevant advertising."
