Revenues rise for U.S. agencies
U.S. marketing communications agencies saw revenues jump by 8.8 percent in 2006, the largest rise in almost five years.
The largest revenue rise was experienced by the interactive sector, with a 23.1 percent increase in agency revenues over the same period last year. At the same time traditional media revenue grew just 4.2 percent as marketing shifts towards online channels.
"Interactive is huge," says Chris Weil, chairman-CEO of Momentum Worldwide, a promotions agency owned by Interpublic Group of Cos, via Adage.com. "If anybody in marketing is not a big part of interactive, they won't be around much longer."
These latest revenue figures are contained in Advertising Age’s Annual Agency Report, the 63rd to be published since the first in 1945.
Dependence on traditional media varies greatly between agencies. According to the report some, like Publicis, can draw around 70 percent of revenue from traditional media while others, such as Omnicom, generate just under 43 percent.
