Online shoppers want information during buying process
The provision of information throughout the buying process is a key way to convert browsers into purchasers, says a new report.
According to Harris Interactive’s recent Online Retail Report, nearly half of consumers have increased the amount of shopping they do online. Forty-eight percent said they had increased online shopping “a great deal” or “somewhat” in the last five years.
The key to converting browsing shoppers is to provide plenty of information throughout the buying process. Forty-two percent of consumers said they would like to be able to find information online and solve their queries themselves. Being able to find the information they want immediately, and online, increases their satisfaction and reduces retailer’s costs.
"Providing shoppers with easy access to relevant information is critical to the success of any online retailer," said Greg Gianforte CEO of RightNow, the report’s sponsor.
Following up on sales with targeted email messages is also essential to ensure repeat business and customer satisfaction. Seventy-three percent said they would welcome any post-purchase follow up, and 68 percent said they had looked around a website after receiving an email from a retailer.
