screen_tonic.gifMicrosoft has joined the likes of Yahoo and Google by gaining a foothold in the mobile advertising market. ScreenTonic, its recent acquisition, is a major European player whose technology Microsoft intends to roll out globally.

The mobile phone advertising company has developed a platform on which to manage and place ads on the mobile internet and also acts as an advertising agency.

"The acquisition of ScreenTonic will be part of our long-term strategy to deliver ad experiences that map to the (mobile Internet)," said Steve Berkowitz, senior vice president at Microsoft's online services group.

ScreenTonic, a Paris-based company, serves around 80 million banner ads a month, via carriers such as Orange France and Mobistar, on behalf of major brands.
