Yahoo available on mobiles using Windows
Taiwan's High Tech Computer Corp. (HTC) and Yahoo have partnered to provide a new service to mobile users. HTC is the world's leading manufacturer of mobile phones using Windows Mobile software; the partnership will add Yahoo to the HTC phone models.
The partnership adds another mobile manufacturer to Yahoo's list of makers carrying their services.
"Windows Mobile phone users tend to be consumers who are relatively data savvy," Ojas Rege, senior director of Yahoo's mobile phone business said (via Reuters). "They are a pretty attractive group of users both from the standpoint of being early adopters of new services and in terms of advertising demographics."
Already this year, Yahoo has signed on with mobile carriers like Nokia, Motorola, Samsung and LG to allow online access to mobile users. This deal could potentially increase Yahoo's mobile users by millions.
Yahoo's previous deals allowed users to have one click access to online search, email, maps and local information. Yahoo users also have access to the Flickr photo sharing platform.
Making the web easier to reach from mobile phones has been a challenge in the past. However, with user demand increasing and advertisers more interested in targeting mobile users, improvements like one-clickability and mobile only platforms have improved the Internet's mobile reach.
