Yahoo MyBlogLog Purchase Confirmed
After the rumors last November, it’s now official, Yahoo owns MyBlogLog.
According to Forbes.com and Gigaom.com the deal has been finalized. Gigaom.com blogger, Om Malik, claims he was there when Scott Rafer, Chairman of MyBlogLog, received the news. Malik writes in his blog that, after checking his Blackberry Pearl, Rafer “…typed out his response, and asked his lady friend to press the little Pearl to send the email. “It’s done,” he said, referring to the sale of MyBlogLog to Yahoo."
Rumors began of a possible purchase by Yahoo last November, around the time of the purchase of Bix.com. Back then the reported price tag was $10 million but no official figures have been released at the time of writing.
MyBlogLog enables readers of web pages to leave information about themselves, building a social network among fans of such sites as MySpace, commercial web publications, or personal weblogs.
“This closes the loop between readers and publishers,” said Bradley Horowitz, vice president of product strategy at Yahoo, via Forbes.com. “Every publisher wants to know his readers, and the readers want to find out about each other. It’s the power of implicit networking.”
According to Rafer, Mybloglog is currently available on about 45,000 blogs and looks at around 1 million blog readers a day.
