Second European Acquisition for ValueClick
California-based ValueClick Inc. has furthered its expansion into Europe by purchasing Shopping.net.
The London-based online shopping comparison site was bought by ValueClick, one of the world’s largest integrated online marketing companies, for $13.3 million. ValueClick also owns Commission Junction and vcmedia.com.
“Shopping.net is a great fit for ValueClick Europe,” said Carl White, chief executive officer of ValueClick Europe. “This acquisition expands our online shopping destination site presence in the marketplace, and is another significant step in our European expansion.”
Shopping.net generates revenue from cost-per-click advertising and owns 27 comparison, vertical content and search services throughout Europe, attracting around 2 million visitors a month. It is expected to generate $4 million in revenue in 2006.
This move will see ValueClick expand their European presence. This is their second European purchase with the 2004 acquisition of Pricerunner.com, for around $29 million, being the first. Pricerunner.com provides information on thousands of products and retailers to online buyers.
“Europe is an important growth area for ValueClick, and we’re excited to add Shopping.net to our European operations,” said James Zarley, chairman and chief executive officer of ValueClick.

Comments
This should be a smart move for ValueClick as the increasing competition in the U.S. makes it difficult for them to grow in any meaningful way. The European Market should be a good boost for them. It should give them a much larger chance to increase their growth outside the U.S.
