Online Ad Revenue To Be Used For Pixelotto Payout

Will online advertisers rush to Alex Tew’s second moneymaking internet venture?

by Helen Leggatt

According to Tew, his pre-orders predict another rush to buy pixels on his new site, Pixelotto.com. His original venture, milliondollarwebsite, amassed the student a cool $1 million from the sale of 1 million pixels at a cost of $1 each.

This time around he’s doubled the price, and doubled the attraction. While it now costs a minimum of $200 to advertise (10 x 10 pixels at $2 per pixel), Alex is also holding a lottery for a lucky user to win half of the revenue created by the site. If the site sells out, as it did before, one lucky user will win $1 million simply by clicking on one “lucky” pixel.

Regardless of whether it sells out, the lotto draw will be held on December 7, 2007 and the payout will be half the revenue accrued from sales.

Copycat sites, such as Million Winner Homepage and the similarly named Pixlelotto, have had limited success. Tew’s first site prompted an enormous amount of viral activity, partly due to the novelty value of this new money-making medium.

The amount of press interest that Tew’s site arouses, goes a long way to attracting advertisers who know that traffic to his site will be huge. The added bonus of a user, and not just advertisers, making money could turn out to be a clever twist to reinvigorate global interest.

Pixelotto will go live on December 5, 2006.

There's another interesting twist that recently came out. It's quite different from the original million dollar homepage idea.

Oh yeah, the twist I spoke of above is www.seethewall.com

So everyone's heard of milliondollarhomepage.com which made $1,000,000 in just 3 months for student Alex Tew. Now he has unveiled his second business venture...... pixelotto.com. The site works by selling squares of 10x10 pixels of ad space for a whopping $200 each. Then, each time someone clicks on a particular ad they increase their chance of winning the prize of $1,000,000 once the adspace is full. That's right, this time he's giving away $1m to a lucky 'clicker' and the other $1m will be used to keep the site running. I do not doubt that he will sell all the ad space in the matter of 1 month, and will indeed make someone a millionaire, and like his last venture, anyone who can afford to buy adspace on his site will benefit from a surge of traffic to their site. But it's the small print that sets alarm bells ringing. With the last site, you got the same deal for half the price. $100 for a 10x10 pixel ad. The ad would then be on the site for 5 years, if not indefinetely. This time however, it is implied in the 'rules and regs' that for your $200 you do not get ad space for 5 years, but instead for only a month after the ad space is sold out. Judging by the interest already mounting even before the site is launched (launch date december 5th) I'd say that ads will be displayed for a maximum of two months before the homepage is wiped clean and Alex gets his paws on another $2,000,000 of advertisers money. Come on Alex, impress us. How about a little originality with the next BIG idea that you promised us, and a little less greed.

I was one of the first visitors to this new website when I got the email 5 days ago. I placed the first order and bought the TOP LEFT CORNER 10x10 block. Since Pixelotto has gone live to the public I've already had several thousand visitors! Needless to say I'm happy with the initial response. :-) http://www.kingofthebill.com

I was also one of the first to purchase on Alex's new website, ive had over 400 visitors so far for just a single block. Not bad and the rush hasnt come yet:)

My name is Michael Blakeley and unfortunatly for me I was going to launch a website with the same concept on friday (hastily brought forward to today). I registered the domain name back in August but as there is only me and what help i can get from friends it has taken me till now to finish it. It is the same idea but mine is a one off and the adverts will be on for 5 years as opposed to Alex's possible 6-7 weeks (at this rate). Anyway please come and join the competition and hopefully theres room for two successfull sites on the web. He has a major head start but hopefully in this battle of David vs Goliath some people will opt for the little guy (thats me by the way!!) So please come and visit www.tickettoamillion.com even if only to see how similar they are!!

okay so this seems like it would be very easy to win if like 500 of us worked together as a team…all we have to do is sign up as players and each player is assigned 10 ads to click every day until all of the ads are being clicked every day and then the million is split evenly among us…sounds simple enough to me

I beat him to it! I set up my site a good while before pixelotto was announced! You can check my site out here www.cashcells.co.uk : The site offers the user clicking on the adverts the chance to win $$$, the total size of the prize is directly related to the number of adverts.

the first site deserved what it went on to be just because of the novelty of idea, but anyone who advertises on this one is just pure foolish, advertising on this one might get you 2000 visitorsd per day for a small time period but how many of them would even bother to look what your site is about let alone make a purchase, and what about hackers creating bots which would click on ads for them

What a pointless site Pixelotto.com is. It only serves as a method of getting hits to your site. But the hits are all RANDOM so it certainly won't benifit your revenue. Check out milliondollaremployment.co.uk for an example of USEFULL pixel advertising!!!!

Posted by: Mark T on December 7, 2006 16:31

hey, pointless or not, this guy is still making his money. whether or not people click on ads for the right reasons doesn't affect the fact that alex tew is on his way to his next million. he is smart enough to exploit the fact that he still has contacts of past advertisers from the milliondollarhomepage and use it to make millions. no one on this world can say that they would do the same as alex tew if they were in his position.

Alex is an inspiration to many young and old want to be entrepreneurs. The idea of a lottery has had mixed reviews of being great for 1 person, but providing advertisers with traffic that has been paid for through the addition of an increase of the pixel price. I think many were expecting something different from Alex. Ideas such as ShopFromHomepage.com have utilized the concept to provide local information for residents and travelers: ideas that have been seeded by new ideas.

In this website you can see that most ad value on Alex's website is advertisers that is buying ads for $200. But the real thing is such ad type has almost 0% of ROI. http://www.pixelottoreport.com

I found another site, but it's quite different - it doesn't sell pixels, but rather letters. http://www.lettermatrix.com

I like the http://www.milliondollaremployment.co.uk/ site. At least it has a purpose.
