In-Game Ad Network Launched
Its official: the world’s first in-game advertising network has launched. Set up to catch gamers while they are playing with targeted ads; the network could change how advertisers operate.
MochiMedia developed the network, called MochiAds. It gives online marketers access to a global community of independent game makers, specifically those who aren’t connected with gaming leader Electronic Arts (EA). The network will insert ads directly into free online games for the advertisers.
"It's like [Google] AdSense," noted Mike Geiger, director of interactive production, Goodby, Silverstein & Partners (via MarketingVOX). Goodby has MochiAds planned for several 2007 media campaigns. One reason, he explained, is that [the network] offers advertisers an "exclusive, non-intrusive" environment where online players must watch the ad while they wait for the game to load. With an estimated 150 million gamers worldwide, that is a very large, captive audience.
And most gamers won’t mind.
A recent study from comScore indicated that 37% of heavy gamers and 27% of moderate gamers agree that in-game ads add to the realism of the games. Online gaming is expected to jump in the coming years. Revenue from online gaming is expected to hit $500 million by 2008, which is more than double the revenue in 2004.

I believe your headline is very misleading as MociMedia isn't the first in-game advertising network. IGA Worldwide and Massive Incorporated have established themselves as the global leaders and have been operating their in-game advertising networks since 2004. Both IGA and Massive do not just work with Electronic Arts, but they work with MANY independent and major publishers. You may want to fact check....
