Google: No More “Answers”
Google won’t accept any more questions for it’s “Answers” site. The company has announced that Google Answers will shut down after four years.
By the end of the year, Google Answers will stop answering questions through the portal. The move gives Yahoo! Answers all but free reign over that particular online area. Google Answers sees about one million visitors each month in the U.S. Conversely, Yahoo! Answers claims around 60 million monthly visitors worldwide.
"Google Answers was a great experiment which provided us with a lot of material for developing future products to serve our users. We'll continue to look for new ways to improve the search experience and to connect people to the information they want," according to a post on the Official Google Blog (via MarketingVOX).
Yahoo’s Flickr and Del.icio.us social sites have gained in popularity in the past months. These sites are part of Yahoo’s effort to gain ground in social networking. Google’s cancellation of the Answer’s project could signal a change between the two giants, indicating that Yahoo is in fact gaining ground on the giant.
