Flickr Opens To Guests

Just in time for the holidays, Flickr is open to guests. "The Flickr community wants you" could be the new message. Yahoo’s photo-sharing network is hoping that features – like the new Guest Pass – will encourage new users to give them a try. They hope mobile users and camera buyers will also take advantage of the new features.

The guest pass allows members to share their pictures with friends and family who aren’t registered with the site. Members can make albums available to up to 50 other people by submitting email addresses, and then choosing to allow access to the photos.

"We're especially happy about this one since it's the second most requested feature of all time," explained Flickr co-founder Stewart Butterfield (via Media Post). "Guest passes work with secret links so you can send the link yourself or have us send it for you."

Flickr has also updated the mobile site. It hasn’t been used much. Mobile users can now access Flickr through the URL m.flickr.com by using their Yahoo ID. "This is just the beginning,” said Butterfield. “We're planning on rolling out continuing improvements to the mobile site in the near future."
