First Visual Search Engine Launched

Riya, who has assembled one of the largest visual computing research teams in the world, recently launched the first truly visual search engine.

by Helen Leggatt

Whilst other image-based searches still use words to describe an image Riya’s photo-search engine, Like.com, uses Likeness Technology™. This creates a digital signature that describes the photo’s contents enabling a more accurate image search.

"A picture is worth a thousand words, and it is much easier to shop and search by clicking on pictures than by typing complex search terms," said company CEO and co-founder, Munjal Shah (via Marketingvox). "Like.com is the first major new innovation to come to the world of image search in the last five years. Now, web searchers will no longer have to rely on the tags that may or may not be attached to a given photo or product image."

Key features include the ability to upload your own photo and find same or similar products, search by specific product feature (such as a buckle, strap, etc) and even find items of clothing similar to those worn by your favorite celebrities.

The initial launch will focus on handbags, jewelry, shoes and watches. Clothing and other aesthetically oriented products will be added shortly.
