Travel Tips Online
Marketers have now another growing territory to spread their word. Social networking is becoming one of the latest innovations in the online travel world, allowing people to enter in contact directly with locals or other travelers with similar tastes and interests.
by BizReport
Internet start-ups such as Tripmates, Gusto.com and RealTravel.com are looking to tap into the resources of user-generated content that have propelled advertising supported networks like MySpace. Traditional travel sites, such as Yahoo’s Trip Planner, are also building social networking features such as profiles into their sites so that travelers can read about reviewers.
As with other social networking sites, members must register online and post personal profiles that include information from favorite travel destinations to musical tastes, which allow other users to judge the value of a given review by checking out the reviewer’s interests.
TripAdvisor says it has more than five million reviews and that they are watching to see if the social networking trend draws more online traffic. Stephen Kaufer, TripAdvisor founder and CEO says that the concept is on the money, but sites don’t know yet how compelling the offering is for the relatively infrequent travel visitor.
More and more, social travel networking websites are becoming attractive spaces for advertisers to practice viral marketing offering consumer tips on hotels, restaurants, entertainment, events, museums and fairs.

Has anyone out there heard about WideCircles.com. It seems like a way better service then wasting money on PPC. Apparently they are using refering websites ( forums, blogs, wiki, etc. ) and have a viral word of mouth distributed approach to it. My friend told me he got around 100 visits from single post which cost him $0.40c. I am going to give them a try today . In case you are intrested here is it. http://widecircles.com?s=imt1
