SEO: all about the keyword

Keywords will grow your business. More hits will generate more sales. Buying up dead websites that were popular last year and redirecting them is the new secret to success.

With all of these myths, which way does an online marketer turn? To tried and true – with a twist.

Here are some tips to choose the right Search Engine Optimization.

• A #1 ranking cannot be guaranteed – beware of a service that guarantees this.
• Don’t agree to a plan that will allow keywords to be typed into the address bar. This calls for extra software to be downloaded and few users will do it.
• Do your research. Talk to several providers, find out what they provide, how long they’ve been in business and how their system works. NetworkSolutions and Google are good places to begin.
• Be careful around providers that send you unsolicited email

Once you’ve chosen the provider, think carefully about the products or services that will best benefit you.

• Use the most keywords on your best products. Those products can be connected to related products using a cross-promotion.
• Be careful how keywords are worded and include alternate spellings. The phrases may look awkward, but the alternate spellings will allow for mistakes made by users.
• Include all forms of the words. If you offer marketing courses, use the words “market”, “marketer”, etc.

Search engine optimizers are proven to increase traffic to retail sites. Use wisely and watch as your business grows.
