Is MySpace MySpam?
Valleywag.com, a tech gossip website, has published yesterday a highly controversial article, in the best “tell it all” style, exposing the company behind MySpace, eUniverse, now called Intermix, as a spyware and spamming marketing company, which used questionable tactics to build its social networking empire with the help of spam mails to members of CupidJunction, a top dating website with over 3 million users, and millions of other web users.

Trent Lapinski, a freelance writer, who resides in Orange County and the writer of the article, says that MySpace is the next generation of marketing, advertising and promotions disguised as a social network, in his own words, MySpace is Spam 2.0.
MySpace is virtual community site, which allows users to network, meet people, browse their profiles, and make friends from all around the world. It also contains spaces for bands to share their music and communicate with their fan base.
MSNBC has reported that MySpace is a “hotbed” for spyware and that infection rates are rising because of MySpace.
Lapinski’s article reads a bit like a conspiracy theory, but it offers nevertheless an interesting background on MySpace’s secret story and Spam 2.0.
