Internet Social Network Takes Off In Japan
Membership in Japanese internet social networks has climbed from 3.99m in September 2005 to 7.16m by the end of March 2006. According to the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, this figure is expected to grow in March 2007 to 10m.

This is good news to both marketers and investors. Social networking websites present now lots of opportunities for advertisers to introduce viral marketing strategies. Takashi Nishibori, editor of an IPO Information website says that most of the 110 companies that had listed shares in Japan up to August 25 this year, have seen their shares double in value.
Clearly, in Japan, social networking service is taking off. Most people take it very seriously and do interact with each other. According to industry analysts, it’s the thing to look at on the web these days.
However, analysts at the Credit Suisse also warn that internet start-ups have not always maintained their high share price and that this is an area of high volatility. And, even among internet companies, there will be winners and losers.

While it is true that there needs to be a lot of caution in the internet environment, Japan is one of those countries that is so connected, that they, if anybody, have an excellent chance of doing extremely well in the social networking arena.
